Master in TESOL candidates participate in CATESOL activities and become better prepared for the world of TESOL while they are still in graduate school.
California State University at Fullerton grantees receive a two-year membership to CATESOL and have their registration fees paid for regional, chapter, and an annual conference while being mentored by university professors. They volunteer at CATESOL events and often present.

Starting in 2007, at the request of and with funding from Gwendolyn T. Schwabe, past president of CATESOL, founder of the ESL Program at UC Davis, and known to all as Tippy, UC Davis MA and PhD candidates participated in CATESOL activities to become better prepared for the world of TESOL while they were still in graduate school. Grantees received a two-year membership to CATESOL and had their registration fees paid for regional, chapter, and annual conferences while being mentored by competent university professors. They were also encouraged to volunteer at CATESOL events and to present.
