Professional Development Opportunities The CATESOL Education Foundation is proud to offer professional development opportunities facilitated by trusted members of CATESOL, who are experienced educators and trainers of educators. Below are the topics for which facilitators are available at this time. Participants will learn explore the Common Core State Standards for language arts and mathematics standards, focusing on instructional shifts represented in the standards and their impact on instruction of English language learners in both ELL and grade-level instructional settings. ELD: The Best of Practices What instructional practices work best with K-12 English language learners? What does research tell us about best practices for teaching English language development both for communication and content learning. Learn how to develop lessons that include opportunities for students to develop receptive and expressive language skills through research-based interaction and practice opportunities. Multi-Level / Differentiated Instruction How can teachers address the various English Language Learner proficiency levels in the ELL/ELD or general education classroom? Learn how to develop lessons to address the needs of learners using the New English Language Development Standards (California) or World Class Instructional Design and Implementation Standards/WIDA (Nevada). (Note: The workshop can be tailored to the participant audience levels of experience, grade levels of instruction, and specific needs.) Learn how to implement research-based effective social and academic content vocabulary instruction in the ELL/ELD class as well as grade-level instructional setting.
